De bedenker van dit initiatief is Marjorie Slory Esajas. Geboren in een voetbalfamilie, met een voetballende vader Ettire Esajas (Esaboys en MVV). Moeder van Andwele Slory (oud international) en oma van Jaden Slory (jeugdvoetballer Feyenoord).
Marjorie Slory Esajas is the originator of this initiative. I was born in a real football family. My father (Ettire Esajas; Esaboys and MVV), son (Andwele Slory; former Dutch International), and grandson (currently playing in the youth academy of Feyenoord) all come from or are still in the world of football.
In de jeugdvoetbaljaren van mijn zoon en nu nog heb ik me regelmatig verbaasd over de aanpak binnen de jeugdopleidingen. Het was in mijn ogen vaak hard, kil en niet pedagogisch gericht. Ik heb met tientallen ouders gesproken en die waren over het algemeen dezelfde mening toegedaan. Verder heb ik als referentiekader mijn leraren- en pedagogische achtergrond. Ik ben in de basis leerkracht en ik heb snel een parallel getrokken met de jeugdopleidingen en Nederlandse scholen.
During the football youth of my son I was often surprised at the way young football players were approached during training sessions. With the years this approach hasn’t changed. In my view it is often hard, cold and not pedagogically oriented. I have spoken with dozens of parents and they generally agreed with my opinion. Furthermore, as a frame of reference, I have worked as a teacher and have a pedagogical background. I’m a teacher at heart and used my experience and knowledge during my time as a teacher for youth education and Dutch schools.
Zowel op school als op de jeugdopleidingen wordt er gewerkt met kinderen, die in mijn ogen pedagogisch correct behandeld en gestimuleerd moeten worden. Op beide opleidingsinstituten willen ze alles uit het kind halen wat erin zit. Toen ik eenmaal de vergelijking had gemaakt tussen school en jeugdopleiding was de volgende stap gauw gemaakt. Het Nederlands onderwijs heeft geweldige methodieken en technieken om die doelen te behalen, alleen ze houden zich niet alleen bezig met hun hoofddoel; onderwijzen. Om het onderwijs goed te laten verlopen en een optimale ontwikkeling van kinderen te garanderen hebben ze zich op het mens-zijn gericht. Vaardigheden die ieder mens nodig heeft om succesvol te zijn in het leven namelijk de sociaal emotionele vaardigheden. Toen in mijn onderzoek bleek dat het oppakken van dit stukje in het betaalde voetbal voor extra winst zou zorgen wist waar ik me op moest richten. Maar dan moet men in de voetbalwereld doordrongen zijn van het feit dat het ook in de voetbalwereld om mensenwerk gaat en ik zie het als mijn taak om iedereen daarvan bewust te maken.
At both schools and youth academies you work with children who, in my opinion, have to be treated and stimulated in a pedagogically correct way. Since both these educational institutes aim to enable a child to perform to the best of their abilities, I found it very important to include this pedagogical element. Once I had made the comparison between school and youth training, the next step was easily made. The Dutch education system has great methods and techniques to achieve results with their students, but this is only possible because they focus as much on teaching as they do on the social emotional guidance of their students. To ensure that education runs smoothly and to guarantee optimal development of children it has to be focused on “being human”. To be successful in life every person has to develop emotional skills. When my research showed that picking up this part in professional football would bring extra profit to the development of players, I knew where to focus. The football world must be aware of the fact that it involves the work of people. I see it as my task to create this awareness.
